How To Replace A Mercedes-Benz GLE Headlight
It can be frustrating and downright unsafe if you're having issues with your headlights. While replacing headlights may seem daunting, it is relatively easy if you follow a few simple tips. When replacing headlights, you should be aware that headlights often need height adjustment following the installation to ensure the headlights offer adequate road lighting. Below, we'll cover how to change the headlights in your Mercedes-Benz GLE.
Before You Begin

Whenever you are planning on working with any electrical aspect of your vehicle, it is best to disconnect the battery. This ensures that you will be safe throughout the removal of the old headlight and installation of the new unit. You will also need a few tools, including:
- Torque Wrench
- Body clip removal tool
- 10 mm socket wrench
Removing Your Mercedes-Benz GLE Headlight

- Begin by removing the plastic covers over the front of your radiator and the top of your headlights.
- Use the 10mm socket to remove the bolts holding on the front grille.
- Once the bolts have been removed, use the body clip removal tool to disconnect the two expansion rivets holding the grille on. Remove grille.
- Go to the fender liner at the front of your wheel, just behind the headlight. Use the puller tool to remove the clips holding the fender liner in place.
- Use the 10mm socket to remove the top of the liner from the wheel well.
- Now that the fender liner is clear, you can unscrew the bolt holding the bumper cover to your fender. This will allow the bumper cover to pull free, so you can begin unbolting the headlight.
- Use the 10mm socket to carefully undo the headlight bolts behind the bumper. Be careful if you haven't undone the bumper on both sides of the vehicle as it can easily bend or crack.
- Once you've undone the bolts holding the headlight, be sure to disconnect the large plastic electrical clip on the rear side of the headlight before removing the unit.
To reinstall a new unit, carefully reverse the steps above.
