The thermostat in your car works by opening and closing a valve to control the flow of coolant to your engine. This part maintains your engine's temperature to keep it running efficiently as possible. Having the thermostat running properly is crucial to keeping the engine in good condition. If the thermostat isn't opening or closing at the correct time, major issues can occur. If your thermostat is wearing out, you might notice that your temperature gauge is reading very high or that your engine is overheating. If within fifteen minutes of starting your car, your temperature gauge is in the red zone, this is not a good sign. Another thing that can occur are dramatic spikes or drops in temperature. This should point you in the direction of a worn out thermostat, as it is likely stuck in an open or closed position when this is happening. Leaking coolant underneath your vehicle or around the thermostat housing can also occur when the part is failing. Replacing your thermostat when it starts to wear out is crucial so that you can save yourself costly engine damage down the line. Here at Suburban Auto Parts, we carry a variety of OEM car thermostats for different makes and models so you can make a replacement right away!
